Who is the captain of your life- you or your circumstances?

Have you been impacted by circumstances beyond your control? Do you ponder how you became ensnared in the web of events? Despite your innocence, you find yourself victimized by the actions or inactions of others.

Yes, for some reasons, maybe sometimes without even a reason we all become victims of circumstances. We can’t be the captain of our lives always.

For example, natural calamities can happen any time. People call it as fate (fate or not, I don’t know if there is a supernatural power tossing the Dice or rolling some cause-effect wheels to determine our fate). Anyways people become victims of such circumstances.

But for the circumstances you created, don’t try to garnish yourself with a victim label. It was your failure to do it on time which made you suffer the loss.  That’s a clear case of causal relation or the so called “Karmmaphala“.
Also don’t use it as an excuse for bad behaviour like a crew thrown in jail  who still claims to be a victim of circumstances.

What to do when you become a true victim of circumstances?

Believe in the power of hard work and right attitude. Detach yourself from the outcomes, whether they bring success or failure, recognizing that external circumstances beyond your control may influence them. Once you realize that,  you won’t self criticize for not being at the right place at the right time. Simultaneously, avoid seeking external empathy.

Elevate yourself from self-pity or a victim mindset, for survival is imperative. Remember, if you’re reading this, you’re alive and enduring—just like me—unscathed by any asteroids thus far. Your resilience in overcoming adversity defines your endurance.

Who is the captain of your life- you or your circumstances?

Life is a mixture where you can taste the flavours of your own actions or non-actions as well as that of others.

Keep your attitude up and work hard, let your passion be stronger than your weakness, leave the rest to the universal justice( a cause – effect relation which may be above to our consciousness to grasp) or randomness (things are just random or just some coincidences, and we are being fooled by this randomness)

Whatever happened was not in your control, so now its time to change yourself from a victim mindset to the mindset of being at cause.

Again something which you have no control may happen tomorrow, breaking you into pieces. Then  give enough space and time for your mind to come back. It will survive as you already have an attitude of being at cause.

Great post full of wisdom. Adopting that “victim” mentality will only leads to more heartbreak. Negativity leads to making wrong decisions which only brings on negative events and negativity.
It is a cycle that one can easy fall into.

As I was reading your post, I was trying to imagine what it would feel like to be convinced one is a victim or circumstance(s). I can’t imagine it simply because I am not the envying type. To feel victimized (in the sense of this post) is to live in envy of others’ so-called good fortune. Before I came home and read your post, I had been thinking about what my life would be like if I lived in a billionaire’s home, as wife, or child for example. All I could imagine was how terribly boring life would be, and then I understood why these people are addicted to their money, and to “More Money” syndrome: they are quite mad. They are victims of self-created circumstances. They are trapped. They could, of course, give away their fortunes and keep just enough to live a comfortable and normal life, but they are driven by their fear of “not having enough.” A victim of circumstance, methinks, is driven by the fear of not having enough or the need to have more than others.
“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.” ― Frank Herbert, Dune

I don’t think it need to be rooted in envy always..there are chances to be jealous of others when you are just self pitying while dwelling over the past. But it doesn’t always imply to be the fear for not having enough .
Here many states were severely affected by floods. In fact in Kerala it happened consequently in these 2 years..it was a kind of once in a century’s event earlier , but now the things have changed..hills are getting destroyed, so as rivers and trees , causing these calamities .those who suffered are not the real people causing the issue…they became the victims of circumstances created by someone else..and those who created these are all safe and enjoying the weather…whom to be blamed here? Is it the fate? Where is the universal justice…when 2 year old baby was brutally raped and killed , what was the cause effect relation ruling her life?…karmmaphala or cause effect relation or universal justice…is there anyone to control this…well I Donno…that’s why nowadays I am falling for randomness even though I am trying to be at cause too at least to safeguard my discipline . So what can be done when we become victims of circumstances created by someone else? “Work hard with your attitude”

You strike a nice balance. And how much control any of us have is a philosophical question, for sure, but can also be a political one …
